PACT now has 1,359 members taking part in seven countries.
WSP’s world first voluntary staff personal carbon reduction scheme – PACT, continues to gather momentum. From a small excel based pilot scheme in 2007 to an online web service, PACT currently has 1,359 members taking part across 7 countries! 890 staff from within WSP, and the remaining 469 members from a Pioneers’ Group of like minded companies including Invesys Rail, Cisco UK, Aviva Investors and five London Boroughs.
Participants reduce emissions by 10%
What is of most importance about those numbers is that our research shows that participating staff manage to reduce their carbon emissions by around 10% in the first year. Hence, our uptake of 1359 members should translate into a net carbon saving of 534 tonnes by the end of 2010.
It’s good for the environment & good for business
PACT is working. It changes participant’s behaviour and we believe it’s a great example of how businesses can influence more than just their own direct emissions.
It’s also been good for our business. .Staff tell us that they’ve joined our business because of PACT. WSP – and our Pioneer members – have received extensive media coverage. Last year this was around £380,000 of equivalent advertising spend. And it’s differentiated us in our sector meaning we’re winning more projects and can genuinely say that we’re both advising on sustainability and practising this ourselves.
We’d welcome more organisations into our PACT Pioneers Group.
