Talking eWaste on ABC TV’s Catalyst

Talking eWaste on ABC TV’s Catalyst

WSP Digital’s John Gertsakis, representing Product Stewardship Australia, was featured on the ABC TV program Catalyst last week, discussing the recycling of eWaste:

In 2008, nearly 32 million new televisions, computers and computer products were sold in Australia, and in the same year, nearly 17 million items reached the end of their product lives.

And in 20 years that’ll be 44 million. We’ve got to get on top of these wastes, we’ve got to shred that down to its individual materials and send that material back to be used again.

Some e-waste products do contain lead, silver, gold, platinum, so it makes complete sense to try and recover those materials. Now if they go landfill we don’t recover them.

The full segment can be viewed on the Catalyst website.
